2 young boys die after falling through ice on pond in Sun Prairie

SUN PRAIRIE, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Two young brothers died after falling through ice in Sun Prairie. 

According to a report from WMTV, the incident happened Friday, Jan. 5 at a retention pond near South Thompson Road in Sun Prairie. 

Officials said the boys -- aged 6 and 8 -- were removed from the water and taken to a hospital in critical condition. 

WMTV learned one boy passed away over the weekend, and on Monday, Jan. 8, the second boy passed away from his injuries. 

A GoFundMe has been created to help the boys' family with memorial costs.
