19-year-old arrested following high-speed police chase that started in West Allis and ended in Greenfield
Greenfield Police Department GREENFIELD/WEST ALLIS, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A 19-year-old is in custody after taking two police departments on a chase that lasted just over one mile.
After evading a traffic stop, authorities say 19-year-old Carlos Gonzalez-Flores drove approximately 120 mph before losing control and crashing the car. Gonzalez-Flores walked away with just an injury to his face.
On Monday, shortly before midnight, West Allis police attempted to pull over an Audi for speeding and illegally tinted windows near South 84th St. and West Greenfield Ave. West Allis police say Gonzalez-Flores took off. Officers lost sight of the Audi and called off the pursuit, but the chase picked up again just two minutes later when a Greenfield police officer spotted the car.
Video shows Greenfield police chasing Gonzalez-Flores on I-43 southbound near 92nd Street.
“No traffic, roads are dry, speeds…. inclining, going south. Speeds 100, he’s coming up to 124,” a Greenfield police officer is heard saying. “Crash, crash, crash. Crash. Bad crash. Bad crash.”
According to a police report, Gonzalez-Flores was going approximately 120 mph before he lost control after a mile and hit a guardrail. He then crashed underneath the West Layton Avenue Bridge.
“Driver hands up. Hands up. I’m going to shoot you. Get your hands up,” a Greenfield police officer is heard saying on body camera video.
In body camera video provided by investigators, Gonzalez-Flores is seen walking away from the wreckage.
“Jump the rail, get on the ground. Get on the ground. On the ground. On the ground. On the ground. On the ground,” a Greenfield police officer is heard saying on body camera video.
Gonzalez-Flores was booked on fleeing and eluding a traffic officer and second degree recklessly endangerment. Official charges are pending against Gonzalez-Flores, but jail records show is being held on a $20,000 bail.
