14-Year-Old in Mount Pleasant Hit By Vehicle that Fled the Scene

A vehicle hit a 14-year-old boy and then fled the scene at STH 20/Washington Ave and Oakes Road on Tuesday at 7:05 AM.

Mount Pleasant Officers arrived on scene and determined the offending vehicle had left the scene of the accident prior to Officers arrival.

The pedestrian, a 14 year old boy was crossing STH 20, South Bound through stopped traffic. The suspect vehicle was traveling East Bound passing vehicles on the right shoulder of STH 20/Washington Ave, when the boy was struck. The suspect stopped briefly, got out of his vehicle and checked on the boy, before leaving the scene East Bound.  

The suspect vehicle was described as a teal colored late 1990’s four door vehicle.  The suspect was described as a black male in his late 30’s or early 40’s. The boy is being treated at Wheaton Franciscan hospital with non life threatening injuries.
