MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A new initiative is addressing electrical fires in Milwaukee.
The organization Ezekiel Hope teamed up with the Milwaukee Fire Department on an electrical safety program.
Focusing on the impoverished communities in the Milwaukee area who have consistent issues with electrical fires.
Ezekiel Hope will use its electrical pre-apprentice trainees to address concerns and do necessary repair work.
"One, with this program, we'll be able to take some of the financial burden off of families who need that electrical updating in their homes, and then we have the other side of this, this is the workforce development component. So we have members of our community that can take advantage of a program to develop a skill where they can have family supporting jobs for their families so that's a double win for me today," said Theresa Scott, Greater Milwaukee Foundation.
A $100,000 grant from the Greater Milwaukee Foundation will help fund the assessments and repairs of up to 20 homes around Milwaukee.
