WEST MILWAUKEE, Wis. (CBS 58) -- One man is dead after a shooting in West Milwaukee Monday night, Sept. 27.

The Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office ruled the death a homicide. The victim was later identified as 25-year-old Jordan Belton-Coleman.

It happened around 11:21 p.m. on Miller Park Way near Burnham Street.

West Milwaukee police officers responded to the area where it was reported that two vehicles approached Belton-Coleman's vehicle and fired a number of rounds into it.

The West Milwaukee Police Department requested assistance from Milwaukee, West Allis and the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Department to assist.

Officers from the Milwaukee Police Department attempted live-saving measures on Belton-Coleman but they were unsuccessful.

"It's very kind of disturbing. I feel, normally I feel safe here," said a neighbor, Meyme Lundgren.

The initial investigation revealed that the other vehicles involved left the area in different directions, and a passenger in Belton-Coleman's vehicle fled the scene on foot.

Miller Park Way was closed from W Mitchell to just north of W Lincoln until about 4:50 a.m. on Tuesday.

Belton-Coleman's family sent the following statement:

Our family is deeply saddened and distressed by the sudden and tragic death of our beloved Jordan on Monday, September 27.

Our hearts ache as we struggle to understand this senseless act and disregard for life.

We ask for two things from the community first, for privacy as we grieve and mourn our Jordan. Second, anyone with information regarding this horrific incident to call [authorities]."

If you have any information on the identity of any of these subjects we ask you to call the West Milwaukee Police Department at 414-645-2151 or Crime Stoppers at 414-476-2274.
