Zipper Merge ends Sunday by 7a.m.

For nearly a year drivers have had to deal with slower driving conditions as they approached the Zoo Interchange along I-94 WB and 68th St.  The Zipper Merge, which started last Fall as part of the Zoo Interchange Construction Project will come to an end this Sunday.

Drivers will now be able to take full advantage of all three lanes in the westbound direction.

"When you have a major project like the Zoo Interchange, there's always change," Mark Klipstein from Wisconsin DOT said.  "This time change is positive.  We actually are going to remove the zipper merge this weekend, weather depending on Saturday night."

Also reopening at the same time is the rebuilt 70th St. on ramp to I-94 WB.  The ramp was closed to help alleviate congestion in the Zipper Merge while crews continued their work of the roadways and worked on the ramp.

With the Zipper Merge ending, drivers should see an improvement in both their Morning and Evening commute times.
