SOUTHEAST Wis. (CBS 58) -- Many schools around the area were closed Friday due to the weather. It left some parents scrambling to find things for their kids to do. It also gave some adults a chance to feel like a kid again.
A sledding hill in Franklin has been filled with families all afternoon.
"Normally at school, you only get two recesses, but in the snow, you get as many free times as you like," said Abigail Perkins, a student who was enjoying the snow.
"I knew it was a snow day so I went back to bed and then my mom told me we were going sledding," said Andrew Schneble.
Families gathered in Franklin Friday at the Whitnall Sledding Hill.
In Racine, kids passed the time waiting for the downtown ice rink to open. They were excited to be anywhere but the classroom.
For some parents, the nostalgia of their own snow days is enough to make them happy to hang in the cold with their kids.
"I do remember the snow banks being up to the streets. I remember coming down here with my old man," said parent Perry Perkins Jr.
The skating park is open until 7 p.m. on Friday.
