Wrong-way driver arrested for driving drunk with 2-year-old in the car in Brookfield

BROOKFIELD, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A Milwaukee man is charged with his second OWI after investigators say he was driving drunk with a child in the car in Brookfield.

Dominic Arellano, 21, is charged with operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated - second offense, with a minor child in the vehicle and operating a motor vehicle while revoked.

According to a criminal complaint, around 1:15 a.m. on June 21, Brookfield police officers were called about a wrong way driver going northbound on Moorland Road in the southbound lanes of traffic.

Police found the vehicle, facing the wrong way on Moorland Road just south of Greenfield Avenue and stopped the vehicle.

The complaint says when the officer came up to the vehicle, she saw a 2-year-old child in a rear passenger car seat and a woman in the front passenger seat. The driver, identified as Arellano, told the officer "I knew I was in the wrong lanes," and said he was on the wrong side of the road because he was arguing with the woman in the passenger seat. When asked how much he had to drink that night, Arellano allegedly said he had "a shot of beer," before correcting himself saying he had one beer.

Police say Arellano performed poorly on field sobriety tests and tested at .096 on a breathalyzer test. He was arrested for OWI.

Court records show Arellano was previously convicted for OWI in January for a violation in December 2017.
