World Bee Day: Talking pollinators and native bees at Wehr Nature Center
CBS 58 FRANKLIN, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Do you know the difference between a bumblebee and a honeybee? There are more than 400 native bees in the state of Wisconsin. At Wehr Nature Center in Franklin, the Wehr Nature Center is not only a place where you can learn a lot about bees, it's also a place to see them in their natural habitat.
According to Brooke Gilley, the environmental educator at Wehr Nature Center, bees are the most efficient pollinator we have; and they play an important role in our lives.
She recommends learning about native bees by reading about them. Even adults can start with children's books, she says.
"And also learn about what flowers that they like, said Gilley. "A lot of our native plants support native bees, so start adding a few in your landscape. If you don't have them in your yard, some of the things you can do is put them in a container. Things like Jacob’s ladder are great to pot in a pot."
Wehr Nature Center is also the perfect place to see birds and other insects and wildlife.
