MOUNT PLEASANT, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Work is now underway on a new animal shelter in Racine County.
The new facility will be located on the corner of 16th and 90th Streets in Mount Pleasant.
The Wisconsin Humane Society says the building is twice the size of its current shelter.
It will have quiet animal housing, veterinary space, and a multi-purpose room.
"Space means everything... the more space you have the more animals you can serve, the more people from the community you can serve, and the better you can operate for the community's sake," said Angela Speed, VP of Communications for WHS.
The new shelter is expected to open next spring.
