Woman killed in Oconomowoc condo fire, smoke detectors 'not in working order'

OCONOMOWOC, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Officials say a woman was killed in a condo fire on Lake Country Court in Oconomowoc Thursday night, March 31. 

The call came in around 11:46 p.m., indicating that residents were trapped inside the home.

Fire officials say a man evacuated safely, but police officers who first arrived on scene were unable to further clear the home due to heavy smoke and unsafe conditions. 

Firefighters were able to locate a woman on the second floor of the home, however she was pronounced deceased

Officials say the fire was isolated to the single unit of the condo complex. 

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, however initial findings are that smoke detectors in the home were not in working order and did not alert the residents to the fire.

Authorities say the death does not appear to be suspicious.
