Wittenberg Man Arrested, Facing Child Sex Crime Charges

BELLE PLAINE, Wis. (WSAW) -- A man is in the Shawano County Jail facing child sex crime charges after he contacted an investigator with the sheriff's office, he thought was a 15-year-old girl for sexual contact.

The Shawano County Sheriff's Office arrested a 49-year-old man on Thursday at 12:53 p.m. alleging that he used a computer to facilitate a child sex crime. A deputy told NewsChannel 7 his name will be released Friday.

The man was met by investigators in the Town of Belle Plaine, where he thought he was meeting up with a 15-year-old girl. The sheriff's office said in a press release the investigation into the man began three months earlier. The suspect would chat with investigators he believed were the young girl and included sexual content.

This is the 51st child sex crime arrest in the county since the sheriff's office because its increased efforts on crime prevention on the internet. Charges have been recommended to the district attorney's office.
