Wisconsin named in 9-state ground beef recall

WISCONSIN (CBS 58) -- A Chicago company is recalling about 2,020 pounds of raw ground beef products that may be contaminated with plastic, according to the US Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service.

The items from Amity Packing were shipped to retail locations in Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.

The recalled products are one-pound vacuum-packed packages with lot code 0060 case code 11402 and use/freeze by date of 1/31/2020 on the product label. The products also have "EST. 6919" printed on the right, front side of the package.

The problem was discovered after two consumer complaints, reporting findings of clear, thin plastic in raw ground beef.

Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them and to either throw them away or return to the place of purchase.
