Wisconsin DNR dismantles fugitive's makeshift bunker in Marathon County

MARATHON COUNTY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The DNR is taking down the bunker where a central Wisconsin fugitive says he hid for more than three years.

The bunker where Jeremiah Button says he lived looks a lot different than it did when it was discovered last week.

Now that the roof is off, wardens with the Wisconsin DNR are cleaning out the inside.

"This is pretty common when this happens. Although rare, people do squat on public property," said Sarah Hoye of the Wisconsin DNR. "We do have to go in sometimes and remove items, and that's what's happening today."

Button is accused of multiple sex crimes against children, and deputies from the Marathon County Sheriff's Office were on hand to gather any remaining evidence the DNR uncovers.
