Wisconsin Democrats introduce bill increasing minimum wage

MADISON -- Wisconsin Democrats have introduced a bill that would raise the state's $7.25 minimum wage to $10.10 per hour and tie it to inflation.

Representative Cory Mason, Representative Eric Genrich, Senator Robert Wirch, and Senator Nikiya Harris are currently circulating the bill for co-sponsorship in Madison.

The bill's authors say Wisconsin's current minimum wage pays an employee about $15,000 a year. State Democrats argue this amount is less than the poverty level for a family of four.

Sen. Harris says, \"It is unacceptable that individuals who work full-time cannot support their families or meet their basic needs.\"

The proposed bill would immediately increase minimum wage to $8.20 per hour, and reach $10.10 in two years.
