MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Consumer caution is rising as flood-damaged cars enter the used car market, often appearing in auto auctions, dealerships and classified ads.
Jim Temmer, President of the Wisconsin Better Business Bureau, joined us to discuss the issue on Monday, Oct. 2.
He emphasized that unsuspecting buyers, especially those in regions unaffected by recent flooding, are often deceived by new upholstery and low prices.
After insurance settlements, many of these vehicles are refurbished and resold, sometimes in areas far removed from the original flood zones. Such cars may have hidden, long-term issues like corrosion that can lead to mechanical failures.
The BBB recommends rigorous checks, including vehicle history reports and professional inspections, before purchasing any used car to avoid falling victim to such scams.
