MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Homeowners recovering from natural disasters in Wisconsin are being cautioned against hastily hiring contractors to take on repair work.
Jim Temmer, President of the Wisconsin Better Business Bureau, joined us on Monday, April 1 to discuss the risks associated with "storm chasers," another term for contractors who solicit business in the aftermath of natural events like storms and floods. These contractors, often not local and possibly lacking appropriate licensing, promise quick fixes but may fail to deliver.
Temmer stressed the importance of homeowners remaining vigilant, with tips including seeking multiple estimates, insisting on written agreements and preferring payment via credit card to ensure protection from potential fraud.
