Wisconsin Badgers QB Jack Coan out with foot injury
MADISON, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The Wisconsin Badgers are looking for a new starting quarterback just weeks before the start of the season.
Veteran quarterback Jack Coan is expected to miss the Oct. 24 season opener against Illinois and beyond because of a foot injury. Without Coan, the options include: redshirt sophomore Graham Mertz, who came to campus as the highest rated quarterback recruit in program history.
Coan was set to go into his second season as the starter for the Badgers.
One thing I see from him is an anticipation. You know what I mean? You can see it in his eyes," said Joe Rudolph, Badgers offensive coordinator. "Like he is seeing it deeper, he is seeing the play call deeper as it comes in and his anticipation has been really good. So that’s been fun because that reflects confidence."
Sophomore Chase Wolf and junior Danny Vanden Boom are also options for the Badgers under center should Coan miss significant time.
