Wisconsin Alzheimer's Association rallying in Milwaukee for treatment access
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- As part of June being Alzheimer’s and Brain Awareness Month, the Wisconsin chapter of the Alzheimer's Association is organizing a rally to push for unrestricted access to FDA-approved Alzheimer’s drugs.
According to a press release issued by the Alzheimer's Association, the event aims to raise awareness for the more than 120,000 Wisconsinites journeying through dementia, while emphasizing the urgency for improved treatments.
Scheduled to take place Wednesday, June 14 from 6 - 7 p.m., the rally will take place outside of Discovery World in Milwaukee.
Advocates statewide will unite to push for full access to FDA-approved Alzheimer's treatments, a demand spurred by daily transitions of more than 2,000 people to advanced stages of Alzheimer's, which disqualify them for treatment.
The rally will feature a number of speakers, including Terese Capizzi, Alzheimer’s Association Board of Directors Chair; Dana Elmzen, Volunteer Advocate; Rob Sutherland, who lost his wife to early-onset Alzheimer's; Sue Mielcarek, living with Mild Cognitive Impairment; and Bryan and Maria Wichmann, dealing with early-onset Alzheimer’s within their family.
