Winter evening events return to Waukesha County parks

WAUKESHA COUNTY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Waukesha County Parks is hosting two after-dark winter events this month featuring candlelit trails, campfires and stargazing.

Wild Winter Night takes place Friday, Feb. 13 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Retzer Nature Center in Waukesha. Attendees can walk the candlelit Discovery Trail, try snowshoes, stargaze with telescopes and explore hands-on activities indoors. The evening is set to have presentations by Michelle Thaller, former assistant director for science communication at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, with a talk on black holes.

Admission is $6 per person, free for ages 2 and under and members of Friends of Retzer Nature Center and Friends of Horwitz-DeRemer Planetarium. Registration is required.

Winter Night Out takes place Thursday, Feb. 26 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at Fox Brook Park in Brookfield. The event features a candlelight hike along a paved trail, lake views and campfires. A parks daily permit costing $7 or annual membership costing $40 is required for each vehicle. Concessions will be available for purchase.
