Whitewater police seek parents of newborn boy found deceased in field

WHITEWATER, Wis. (CBS 58) -- An investigation continues after Whitewater police located a deceased newborn in a field Saturday, March 4.

Police say the newborn is an unidentified male, found in a plastic bag inside a cardboard box, and wrapped only in a light-colored shirt.

Authorities believe the baby was placed in the field near Twin Oaks Mobile Home Park less than 48 hours before he was located.

Anyone with information regarding the mother or father is asked to contact 262-473-0555 option #4 or contact the Detective Bureau directly at [email protected]. Anonymous tips may also be shared using P3Tips.com.

Whitewater police wish to remind the public that the Safe Haven for Newborns law guarantees parents the right to anonymously relinquish custody of newborn babies 72 hours old or younger.

They say, "newborns can be relinquished to a law enforcement officer, emergency medical services practitioner, or hospital staff member without fear of legal consequences."
