What FEMA says you need to know when applying for federal disaster aid

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- If you were impacted by the early August floods and storm damage, FEMA may be able to help with financial assistance.
The application to apply for disaster aid is now open to anyone in Milwaukee, Waukesha and Washington counties, and the deadline to apply is Nov. 12.
President Trump announced nearly $30 million in aid late last week. But Nicole Wilson, a spokesperson with FEMA says that number could change.
“That $30 million number that we keep hearing about is just a preliminary estimate based on the assessment we did a few weeks ago. It’s not a cap. I don’t want people to feel that once we hit that number it’s no hope for them,” said Wilson.
FEMA can help with everything from furniture and clothing to appliances and rent due to being displaced.
“Fire up that furnace,” said Wilson. “If they’re not working, you want to come talk to us, because we may be able to help cover some repair or replacement costs.”
You can track the status of your application in your account. To apply for assistance, your application must be in before the deadline on Nov. 12.
