WEST ALLIS, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The West Allis Fire Department is trying to buy back one of its old fire engines.
The fire engine was built back in 1930 and has managed to survive after almost 90 years. For many of those years, the engine has been in the hands of collectors. They've taken good care of it, but now the Fire Department wants to buy it back.
"We'd like to utilize it in parades and at stations during open houses. Also, to get people to come over and engage with us," said West Allis Asst. Chief Kurt Zellmann.
"I remembered a story my grandfather had seen it at a car show recently. Maybe about six months earlier than that and it said that that was his old Engine 3 and he actually took his first call on that engine," said third-generation West Allis firefighter Scott Liska.
The West Allis Fire Department needs to raise $16,000 to buy back to the old engine. If you'd like to help the department reach their goal, please click here.
