West Allis awarded $28K grant to develop a downtown pedestrian plaza
WEST ALLIS, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The City of West Allis has been awarded a $27,931 grant from the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation to transform a downtown side street into a pedestrian plaza.
The Vibrant Spaces grant, announced Monday, Aug. 14, aims to contribute to the development of an inviting space with outdoor seating, moveable bars and lighting.
The plaza will serve as an event venue on weekends at The Deco, and a community hub for residents and visitors, with an expectation to improve the overall image of the area.
West Allis Mayor Dan Devine expressed excitement about the plaza in a press release announcing the grant, saying, “We are very grateful to have partners like the WEDC and The Deco to share our vision and are willing to invest in it. It will bring foot traffic to the downtown businesses and build community within the neighborhood.”
Construction is set to begin this summer.
