MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- In the wake of New Year's resolutions, an alarming increase in scams involving weight loss products has emerged. The Wisconsin Better Business Bureau is warning people about the risks associated with these deceptive promotions.
Jim Temmer, President of the Wisconsin BBB, joined us on Tuesday, Jan. 2 to shed light on this issue.
He emphasized the prevalence of false advertising, particularly in products claiming rapid weight loss results. These products, ranging from body wraps to dietary supplements, often feature exaggerated claims and do not deliver the promised outcomes.
Most of these weight loss scams begin with unrealistic promises and involve complex subscription models, making cancellation and refunds nearly impossible. Many consumers report being unwittingly enrolled in recurring billing cycles after what they believed was a one-time purchase.
The health claims made by these products are often unsubstantiated and may pose health risks.
