WEATHER UPDATE: Snowy Saturday Turns into A Rather Chilly Sunday

The first big snow storm of the season is playing out like we thought with some places along the Illinois border receiving more than a foot of snow.  Closer to home, many areas are receiving at least 3 to 6 inches with a few more additional inches expected into the afternoon before the system departs the region. There could also be some lake enhancement adding to the totals by the immediate lakeshore. The Winter Storm Warning holds for most of us into the afternoon. But north and west of the metro, it's a Winter Weather Advisory.

Behind this system, the focus is on cold with single digit wind chills into tonight not to mention the gusty winds from the north, causing blowing and drifting. Make sure to watch out for lots of slick spots as well with temperatures falling below freezing into the evening.  Put some salt down and make sure to clean off your car if you do need to travel.  Reduce your speeds, especially on bridges, overpasses, and ramps.

Hopefully by now you've downloaded the free CBS 58 mobile app to keep track of snow on the radar.  Also, please send your pictures to [email protected].
