We Energies: 99% of customers to be restored by Saturday afternoon

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- We Energies said they expect 99% of customers affected by Tuesday's storms to have power restored on Saturday, Aug. 14.

Officials say they expect the power to be restored by noon.

"We have an army of men and women in the field, and we are confident that we can wrap up the largest mass restoration effort in company history today," We Energies said in a statement.

Milwaukee's Department of Public Works (DPW) said they are continuing to focus on critical locations which include downed trees and branches blocking access tot he street and those that have fallen on buildings, houses, or vehicles.

"We appreciate the public's patience as Forestry is working 24/7 and those efforts are being augmented today with Sanitation Services which is deploying smaller equipment to pick up brush on curbs," DPW said in a statement on Saturday.

DPW and We Energies are working together to remove or de-energize downed wires in or near the work zone before crews can safely cleanup.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
