Wauwatosa squad struck by alleged drunk driver while pursuing vehicle near 20th and Hampton

WAUWATOSA, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A Wauwatosa police squad was involved in a crash Monday night, while pursuing a fleeing vehicle near 20th and Hampton. Police say the driver of the striking vehicle, who was not involved in the chase, was arrested by Milwaukee police officers for driving while intoxicated.
According to the Wauwatosa Police Department, the pursuit began after officers located a vehicle near 60th and Silver Spring around 7:20 p.m., that had previously fled and eluded officers following an attempted traffic stop on Sept 1.
Additional officers responded to assist and attempted to make a stop near 20th and Stark. The driver fled, first circling the area before crashing into a pole near 21st and Stark and running from the scene.
Police officers located and arrested the driver, a 48-year-old Milwaukee man, who officials say had multiple warrants for his arrest.
Charges will be referred to the Milwaukee County DA's Office in the coming days.
The Wauwatosa officers involved in the squad crash were taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
