Wausau Man Charged with Sexually Assaulting Child at Daycare

WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAW) The husband of a former Wausau childcare provider has been charged with sexually assaulting a childwhile the child was attending daycare.

Miguel Angel Ruiz, 35, is facing charges of first degree child sex assault, child enticement and exposing his genitals to a child in an incident that occurred several years ago at the daycare provider’s house.

A report filed by the Marathon County Sheriff’s Department shows the assault happened sometime between 2008 and 2011 when the victim was in pre-school.

The victim’s parents reported the assault in February 2016.

Ruiz is married to Crystal Ruiz, who ran an in-home daycare on Swan Avenue in the Township of Rib Mountain.

According to the report, Miguel Ruiz would sometimes stay home with the children while his wife picked up other children from school to bring them back to the daycare.

In an interview with a Marathon County social worker, the victim said the assault occurred in the home’s basement while Crystal Ruiz wasn’t home and the other children were upstairs.

The victim says Miguel told her not to tell his wife what happened.

In an interview with a Marathon County Sheriff’s Deputy, Ruiz continually denied that anything happened, but eventually told the deputy, “like she said, I did it.”

Ruiz was charged in Marathon County court Thursday.

A pretrial conference is scheduled for October 17.
