Washington County: Woman dead, children flown to hospital with life threatening injuries after crash

WASHINGTON COUNTY (CBS 58) -- A woman is dead and children were flown to a local hospital with life threatening injuries following a crash in Washington County on Saturday, Oct. 16.

Officials received multiple 911 calls reporting a two vehicle crash at the intersection of Pleasant Valley Road at County Trunk Z shortly before 10:30 a.m. The callers reported that several vehicle occupants had severe injuries with children in one of the cars.

Deputies from the Washington County Sheriff's Office, as well as several surrounding agencies, responded to the scene. Both vehicles had extensive damage and the occupants had to be extricated. Flight for Life was also requested to the scene for severe injuries, officials say.

An initial investigation showed that a west bound vehicle on Pleasant Valley Road failed to yield for the stop sign and struck the south bound vehicle at a high rate of speed, according to a news release. The driver of the south bound vehicle was assessed by rescue at the scene and pronounced dead. The children in the south bound vehicle were taken to Children’s Hospital for treatment of life threatening injuries, according to officials.
