Washington County Jail inmate in critical condition after 'deliberately' jumping from top-tier railing

WASHINGTON COUNTY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- An inmate at the Washington County Jail sustained critical injuries after officials say they deliberately jumped from a top-tier railing of an adult pod.
The incident happened Tuesday morning, Oct. 7.
According to the Washington County Sheriff's Office, the 28-year-old male inmate, from Minnesota, is being held on a $50,000 cash bond on charges related to a domestic violence incident that happened Sept. 27.
The inmate was transported by ambulance to a regional trauma center in critical condition.
The Manitowoc County Sheriff's Office has taken the lead on the investigation.
“Our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of the individual involved,” said Washington County Sheriff Martin Schulteis. “We take the safety and well-being of all individuals in our custody seriously and are committed to fully investigating this incident and working with external agencies to ensure transparency throughout the process.”
