Wanted burglary suspect arrested after fleeing deputies on bicycle in Fond du Lac County
FRIENDSHIP, Wis. (CBS 58) — A 50-year-old Wisconsin man with an active nationwide felony warrant was arrested Tuesday after allegedly fleeing from deputies on a bicycle before leading authorities into a marsh.
According to the Fond du Lac County Sheriff's Office, a deputy was patrolling near Lakeshore Drive and Lone Elm Road in the Town of Friendship around 12:15 p.m. when he recognized a man wanted on a nationwide felony warrant issued by Iron County for burglary of a dwelling.
When the deputy attempted to make contact, the suspect reportedly fled south on a bicycle along Lakeshore Drive before abandoning it and continuing on foot across private property west of the roadway.
After temporarily losing sight of the suspect, additional law enforcement agencies responded and established a perimeter. Authorities deployed a K-9 unit and an aerial drone to assist in the search.
Following a search of roughly 200 yards through dense marshland, authorities located the suspect and took him into custody without incident.
The suspect, who is from Rib Lake, was transported to a local hospital for medical clearance and is expected to be transferred to the Fond du Lac County Jail upon release.
Authorities said the man has an extensive criminal history that includes resisting and obstructing law enforcement, drug-related offenses and theft-related offenses.
