Walworth County Sheriff’s Office warns of telephone scam

WALWORTH COUNTY (CBS 58) – The Walworth County Sheriff’s Office says there is a telephone scam going around that involves the department.

Authorities say a caller is posing as a Walworth County Sheriff’s deputy and demands a payment for an outstanding arrest warrant. The caller then gives the potential victim instructions to pay the warrant through gift cards to prevent being arrested.

The sheriff’s office says it will never request warrants to be paid through gift cards. They warn everyone to be cautious when asked to make payments over the phone.

Anyone who has been victimized is asked to contact police to file a report.
