Walk-off loss drops Brewers behind Cardinals

WASHINGTON - Jayson Werth's ninth-inning RBI double was a walk-off winner for the Washington Nationals Sunday against the Brewers. The 5-4 win gives the Nationals the series win and puts the Brewers in second place by a half-game, pending the outcome of the Cardinals-Dodgers game Sunday night.

Rickie Weeks tied the game in the ninth inning with an RBI single, but was then thrown out at second on the trail end of a double steal. The Brewers aggressive baserunning had paid off earlier in the game, as Ryan Braun scored from second on a ground ball to the pitcher, and Jean Segura scored from third on a ground ball despite the Washington infield playing in.

The Brewers host the Reds Monday night in game one of a week-long homestand. The Reds and Brewers are two of the four teams separated by just three games in the N.L. Central standings.
