WisDOT updates CBS 58 on freeway projects across SE Wisconsin
WAUKESHA County, Wis. (CBS 58) -- In Waukesha County, volunteers gathered to prepare for the Race to Feed competition on Thursday, Jan. 9.
Earlier today, volunteers arranged thousands of food items in preparation for this afternoon competition. The event, hosted by Blessings in a Backpack, will have teams compete against each other to see who can pack the fastest in a race to fill 10,000 bags of food for children in Waukesha County.
"A lot of these children rely on free and reduced lunch program at school as their main meal, so being food insecure is a real issue in Waukesha County," said Susan Reed, marketing director with Blessings in a Backpack.
The packed bags will be given out Friday to children who struggle with food insecurities during the weekends. It is estimated that more than 11,000 children struggle with hunger over the weekends.
