MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A heartwarming scene at the Isaac Coggs Heritage Health Center during a cold morning in Milwaukee.
Volunteers handed out free meals for the Fifth Annual Holiday Dinner Giveaway.
Ham or chicken dinners were distributed to local families facing hunger.
Organizers say before the pandemic, they only handed out a couple hundred meals during these giveaways.
"This year it's 2,000 because a few weeks ago when we did the Thanksgiving dinner giveaway, the calls were overwhelming," said Michele Grant of Milwaukee Health Services, Inc.
Milwaukee Health Services organizes this giveaway in partnership with the Social Development Commission, Feeding America and others.
This year, along with the dinners, they also put COVID-19 safety kits in each car.
