Behind the Gun summit to address firearm safety in Milwaukee
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Many students are gearing up for the new school year, and to help them prepare for classes, AT&T Pioneer volunteers donated 1,000 new backpacks to Milwaukee students.
The backpacks were filled with notebooks, folders, crayons, and other school supplies.
The volunteers have been doing the backpack program for over 20 years. After months of planning, they visited six Milwaukee public schools to help kids in need.
"Knowing that these kids are going to walk in the building and be handed a backpack full of supplies that they can use that are their very own is very fulfilling and makes mem very happy," said Robyn Gruner, director of external affairs at AT&T.
These backpacks will be handed to students at Open House Night.
