MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Visit Milwaukee is marking National Travel and Tourism Week through Saturday, May 9 with a series of events spotlighting the economic impact of tourism on the city.
Claire Koenig, vice president of communications and advocacy for Visit Milwaukee, joined us on Wednesday, May 6 to chat about the week's events and Milwaukee's growing national profile as a travel destination.
Tourism generates $4.32 billion in total economic impact in Milwaukee and supports more than 28,000 jobs, according to Visit Milwaukee. Visitors account for 28% of spending across restaurants, retail, attractions and accommodations and 34% of restaurant spending specifically.
The week's programming includes spotlights on meetings and conventions, culinary tourism, Milwaukee's festival culture and sports tourism, along with a community cheese swap event on Friday, May 8 at The New Fashioned.
