Vintage treasures of Karl Ratzsch restaurant up for auction
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- There was a time in Milwaukee when downtown dining was highlighted by several elegant German restaurants.
Many of those places are now gone.
But some treasures from one of those classic restaurants are up for auction right now.
Ann Burda was a waitress at Karl Ratzsch's Restuarant on E. Mason St. decades ago.
CBS 58 talked to her today, Sept. 25, in the building where she used to work.
"I had waitressed at other restaurants before I came here and this was like being in heaven working here," she told us.
They had an open house today showing off some of the stuff from the old restaurant - now up for bid in an online auction.
Things like a Cuckoo Clock from the dining room, pictures, signs, carvings brought over from Europe. Karl Ratzch's closed in 2017, after 113-years in business but memories of the ambiance and the food remain fresh.
The auction runs until Tuesday, Oct. 7. which you can find here.
There will be two more open houses, so you can come down to E. Mason and see what's up for bid.
