UWM student's non-profit gives back to first-generation college students
CBS 58 MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A UWM student is stepping up to help first-generation students heading to college and living on campus. Briasha Townsend started Blessed on Purpose to provide mentorship, dorm necessities and school supplies to students. Townsend knows first-hand the stress and financial burden that comes with college.
"During the back-to-school months, there's a lot of support for the K-12th grade students, so I was just thinking of a way to support the girls who made it to college and need that support," said Townsend.
During a business leadership and team building course at UWM, students came together to support Blessed on Purpose for their final project.
Together, they set a goal of raising $3,500 or the equivalent of 20 bins filled with supplies, like laundry detergent, hampers and bedding.
You can donate supplies to a drop off location in Port Washington or Walker's Point. You can also choose items to donate directly from an Amazon wish list.
