UWM students excited, surprised with basketball team

MILWAUKEE -- It's a slower outbreak but it's starting to overtake the campus. Panther basketball fever.   Some students had with blank stares when asked about basketball the day after the UWM Panthers beat Wright State to earn a spot in the NCAA Tournament.

But now that excitement is starting to build as the school hung a banner in the union Wednesday morning.

Students are starting to realize they have a reason to follow selection Sunday, as well as the NCAA tournament games.

Most students are surprised the team made this late surge. Some feel it might help them as they roll into the tournament.

Another part is the schools brand.  Similar to schools that made tournament runs in the past, students hope this tournament bid helps increase awareness about UW-Milwaukee.

\"It's good to see that it's bringing school spirit all around us,\" Junior Clayton Goff said.  \"I like to see the home page is filled with our sports, we usually don't get to see a lot of sports and news.\"

\"Anything that like that the campus do as far as like sports or extra curriculars that boosts the UW-M image is going to promote more sales and more revenue and all that good stuff,\" Senior Kendra Marshall said.

The school has events scheduled over the next few days to prepare students for the game.
