UWM men's basketball pauses team activities following positive COVID-19 test

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) --- The Milwaukee men's basketball program is pausing all team activities following a positive COVID-19 test result in its Tier 1 group, according to officials.

The team made the announcement Saturday, Nov. 21.

The team will no longer participate in the season opening MKE Classic that it was set to host. Officials say the event has been cancelled and the Panthers will now miss the first two contests of the 2020-21 season. Those events were scheduled for Nov. 27 and Nov. 29.

The program does a regular surveillance testing three times per week for Tier 1 personnel in accordance with NCAA protocols, according to a news release. Tier 1 members are student-athletes, coaches, team managers and support staff.

"The health and well-being of all student-athletes and MKE staff remains at the top of the program concerns throughout this process and moving forward," a news release stated. "Milwaukee Athletics will continue to follow all guidelines and safety protocols put forth by the program, state, Horizon League and NCAA."
