UW-Whitewater to Host NCAA First Round Saturday Against Lakeland

The No. 2 ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater football team begins its quest for a seventh national championship this Saturday, Nov. 19, at 12 p.m. at Perkins Stadium against Lakeland.

Tickets are $11 for adults and $5 for students and senior citizens, and can be purchase at the ticket window near the front entrance of the stadium starting at 10 a.m.

The Warhawks (10-0 overall), who are ranked second by both D3football.com and by the American Football Coaches Association, will make their 11th postseason appearance in the last 12 years. The team earned the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference’s automatic bid after claiming the program’s 35th conference championship.

UW-Whitewater has won the Stagg Bowl national championship game in six of the last nine years. The program is making its 14th appearance in the NCAA Playoffs all time.

Lakeland (7-3) earned an automatic bid after winning the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference title for the third straight year. The Muskies are making their second straight appearance in the NCAA Division III Playoffs.

The two teams last faced each other in the first round of the 2009 Playoffs. The Warhawks posted a 70-7 victory at Perkins Stadium. UW-Whitewater owns a 7-0 advantage in the all time series between the two teams.

The winner of Saturday’s contest will take on the winner of No. 17 Wittenberg and No. 15 Thomas More (Ky.) in the second round on Saturday,Nov. 26. Game time and location will be announced Nov. 20.
