MADISON, Wis. (CBS 58) --- It is Mother's Day and UW Health is sharing the incredible story of one of their nurses on Sunday, May 9.
Nicole Wayman has been with American Family Children's Hospital for 20 years. One of her most recent patients was her 13-year-old daughter, Aubrey, who was diagnosed with T-Cell Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma in 2018.
Wayman has been by her daughter's side the whole time. She says she gained a unique perspective through her experiences with her daughter.
"I made sure she got what she needed," Wayman said. "I advocated fiercely for her. And now when I'm going into a room that's exactly what I'm going to do for that family. I feel like I can anticipate maybe what that mom needs or maybe what child may be going through because Aubrey and I went through it."
Aubrey finished her last round of chemotherapy in December and thankfully, she is in remission and doing well.
