UW-Milwaukee Chancellor named new Marquette University President

MILWAUKEE -- UW-Milwaukee Chancellor Dr. Michael Lovell will be Marquette University's 24th President, marking the appointment of the university's first lay President.


Marquette University says they Lovell will begin his duty as President on August 1, 2014. He will be the first non-priest to hold the position of President at Marquette University.


Marquette Board of Trustees Chair Charles Swoboda says, \"This is a historic moment in Marquette's 133-year tradition as we appoint the first lay President of this great university.\" 


UW System President Ray Cross says, \"Marquette University, the state's largest Catholic four-year institution, clearly sees in Mike many of the same things for Milwaukee, the state and for our universities.\"
