U.S. News and World Report ranks two Milwaukee schools among Wisconsin's best

U.S. News and World Report ranked Milwaukee Public Schools high schools among the 15 best in Wisconsin.

MPS' Ronald Reagan College Preparatory High School ranked 8th and MPS' Rufus King International High School ranked 12th. Both schools, which earned silver medals from U.S. News, offer the rigorous college preparatory International Baccalaureate curriculum.

MPS' Hmong American Peace Academy earned bronze medal recognition, but did not receive a ranking. U.S. News changed its methodology this year, making more schools eligible for the recognition and creating a more crowded, competitive field both nationally and locally.

The news comes less than one month after the Washington Post named six MPS high schools among the best in the U.S. when it comes to challenging students to achieve through college-level exams.

MPS took the state's top two spots on that list: Carmen High School of Science and Technology-South Campus was ranked 1st, Reagan was ranked 2nd, King was ranked 6th, Milwaukee School of Languages was ranked 20th, Riverside University High School was ranked 29th and Milwaukee High School of the Arts was ranked 35th.

\"We are proud that our schools are once again being recognized for their success in preparing students successfully for college and careers,\" MPS Superintendent Dr. Darienne Driver said.

\"Our work remains ensuring that all students have access to curriculum that challenges and engages them. That's a key part of our strategic objectives, which include rethinking high schools and redesigning curriculum. Our Commitment Schools effort to transform under performing schools, including eight schools with high school grades, is also focused on that goal.\"
