UPDATE: Baby falls out of car onto roadway; Mom gets DUI

Lee's Summit (KCTV) -- A 30-year-old Lee's Summit mother has been charged with multiple violations in municipal court after her infant fell out of her moving vehicle onto a highway entrance ramp Sunday night.

The driver of the vehicle, GiAnni L. Henderson, has been charged with a child restraint violation, failure to provide proof of insurance, a license plate violation, child endangerment, driving while intoxicated, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

All charges are set for municipal court.

Lee's Summit police determined that the 1-year-old child was not properly restrained while riding in Henderson's vehicle and fell from the back seat of the car while she was turning off Chipman Road onto a Highway 50 on-ramp.

The child has since been released from the hospital. A 2-year-old was also in the back seat, according police.

A quick-thinking stranger came to the aid of the baby about 6 p.m. Sunday. A passing motorist stopped and gave CPR. Emergency crews responded and an ambulance rushed the baby to an area hospital.

Investigators said Henderson was traveling east on Chipman preparing to turn onto the entrance ramp for the westbound lanes of Highway 50. While making the turn onto the ramp, the 1-year-old child in the back seat of the vehicle fell out of the rear passenger door and onto the roadway. 

A passing motorist immediately stopped and protected the child while administering first aid until emergency crews arrived.
