MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Oct. 15 was the last day of Hispanic Heritage Month.

The United Community Center (UCC) kept the celebration going a little longer with its Journey to Our Roots event Friday, Oct. 16. It included a parade of flags from different countries, music and dancing.

It was for those in UCC's adult care program, which offers services to the aging and disabled community.

The program director explained how this event helps people with cognitive impairments connect with their culture.

"This brings memories that help - especially those individuals with cognitive impairment - to bring back their memories, their culture, and feel inclusive and feel in a safe environment," said Agnes Rodriguez, aging and disability program director.

UCC offers services for people of all ages, including substance use treatment, home buyer counseling and early education programs.
