UNCF's 'Empower Me Tour' gives MPS students a look into college
CBS 58 MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- There was a lot of enthusiasm at the Baird Center in downtown Milwaukee Thursday morning, Nov. 13. The United Negro College Fund's "Empower Me Tour" made a stop, inviting hundreds of graduating Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS) students for a look into their futures.
The event offered them a chance to apply for college, prepare for college and there were even scholarships available on-site.
"I think with us being able to like get scholarship opportunities and like college tuition being so high, it's definitely a good opportunity for seniors this year," said Aubree Cathey, Rufus King High School senior.
"Just making sure that people know that it's there, you know make sure that they know the opportunity is out there for them to have," said Rashod Edwards, Rufus King High School senior. "Nothing is unreachable."
There was even a workshop for parents of the future college students.
