Two brothers from Wisconsin hit during vehicle pursuit in Indiana

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - Police were called to the scene of a serious accident on Third Street near the Fairgrounds in Terre Haute. 

The accident happened around 8 p.m. Wednesday evening in the northbound lanes right in front of Vigo Dodge car dealership. 

Vigo County Sheriff Greg Ewing told our crew that a deputy was trying to make a traffic stop on a suspect who was wanted for theft from Wal-Mart on the south side of town. 

"That person failed to yield, or stop for the Deputy. A pursuit then ensued at which time the suspect vehicle struck one of the motorcyclists," Sheriff Ewing. 

Ewing explained the two motorcyclists were brothers from Wisconsin and one is a police officer.  

Police report the suspect lost control and crashed later taking off on foot. Multiple agencies including Indiana State Police with K9 units are currently searching the area for the suspect. 

Police do not know the name of the suspect but he is described as a white male, 5'9" last seen wearing a black t-shirt.

Sheriff Ewing stated both motorcyclists suffered serious head injuries. One was taken to Methodist Hospital by medical helicopter and the other was taken to Regional Hospital. At this time they do not know their conditions.  

Northbound traffic was shut down at Springhill Drive and is expected to be closed for several hours. Southbound traffic was moving slowly .
